When you sign-up for a phone contract with O2 you can expect to be locked into that contract anywhere from 12months to 2 years. This is true whether you get the latest Samsung Galaxy S6, Microsoft Lumia 640 or an iPhone 6S.

The reason you’re locked into a contract is because O2 pretty much give you the phone for free up front and want to make sure they can offset that cost by charging you for calls on their network throughout the contract.

This O2 phone unlock guide is suitable for the iPhone 4S, 5, 5C, 5S, 6, 6P, 6S or 6SP, 7, 7P.

This O2 unlock phone guide will help you get unlocked whether you’re using the iPhone 4S, 5, 5C, 5S, 6, 6P, 6S or 6SP. This guide will also help you get unlocked from ANY phone that is locked to the O2 network but because we primarily unlock iPhones that’s where the focus will be.

Four main reasons you might need unlocking from O2.

There are mainly 4 reasons O2 customers will want to have their iPhone unlocked. We don’t cover O2 iPhone users who are blacklisted or barred as we usually don’t unlock them. Here are the four types:

  1. You are under contract and still own your iPhone – You want to be unlocked to go on holiday to another country or want to also use a SIM card from a cheaper provider on the side.
  2. You are under contract but bought the iPhone pre-owned or re-furbished – You bought your iPhone from a friend or off the internet and usually want to be unlocked to use your own contract SIM.
  3. You’re no longer under contract and still own your iPhone – You’ve finished your contract with the O2 network and now want to use a SIM card from a cheaper provider like GiffGaff.
  4. You’re no longer under contract but bought the iPhone pre-owned or re-furbished – You’ve bought the iPhone off the internet or a mate and you want it unlocked from O2 to use your own SIM card.

If for any reason you are unable to use the following methods to get unlocked we provide a service for all models from as little as £29.99.

Three types of O2 customers that can be unlocked.

For whatever reason you want to unlock your O2 iPhone it’s useful to know that the iPhone in your possession will also have been subject to at least one of the following 3 contractual obligations.

  1. Pay Monthly O2 contract – You will have been given your iPhone for free as part of an on-going monthly contract.
  2. Pay & Go O2 contract – You may have bought your iPhone upfront or at a reduced cost for a 12 month contract.
  3. Business contract – You have been given your iPhone for free as part of an on-going pay monthly contract.

Now we’ve got all that out of the way this is where our O2 unlock guide becomes really useful. Below we will set out the methods you can use to get your O2 locked iPhone, unlocked and using the network of your choice.

Not a lot of people understand this and many O2 customers think you are locked in until the end of the contract. You are still under a contractual agreement but that does not mean you cannot unlock your iPhone.

Important: This is not 100% true as the O2 policy may differ depending on your contract.
